Are there certain qualities that winners inherently possess that make them natural difference makers? How can you measure such a thing? The book you’re holding is my attempt not only to answer these questions but also to distill the heart of a nearly four-hundred-page handbook I have been handing out to my players on the first day of spring practice for more than twenty years. We call it The Winners Manual-a personal playbook for success, filled with insights on what it takes to be a winner in the game of life from some of the greatest coaches, athletes, writers, thinkers, and leaders in the world.
We developed it to help our athletes become the best players and people they can possibly be. The principles in this book have been passed down to me from my father; from coaches I have had the privilege of knowing, working with, and competing against; and from hundreds of former players, who have taught me a great deal about success, adversity, winning and losing, hope, love-basically, the stuff of life.
I think you’ll find the information in this book is not so much about football as it is about life and what it really takes to succeed-physically, emotionally, spiritually, and professionally.
These principles have been absolutely invaluable to me over the years, and I hope they will be for you as well. Would you like to tell us about a lower price? If you are a seller for this product, would you like to suggest updates through seller support?

Coach Tressel brings to light several ways he uses to make men out of football players, not just football players out of men. The Coach uses discipline, morality and leadership by example to instill in his players the will to do right. He explains that playing football is a privilege not a right and there are consequences if you abuse this privilege.
It truly is a Winner’s Manual from one of the true Winner’s in life, faith, family, and College Football. The book was a great read.
I am a VP Sales of a global company and have recommended this book to others on my management team. This is a book about personal responsibility, manuaal and service to others as a senior manager and the impact we could have and should have on others we interact with.
Sports comparisons are appropriate and well positioned to show examples of responsibility and results gained from caring for others in a meaningful way. Winjers to each of his OSU players at the start of new season, the manuel lays out Tressel’s philosophy of life and coaching. Familiar, but not corny; straight forward, but not boring, Tressel always brings the discussion around to the importance of gratitude, humility and hard work, three mmanual that he has built his career around and wants his OSU players to copy.
The major weakness of the book is when he attempts to theologize and yet not offend in regard to Jesus. It’s hard to see how he can have it both ways. Winnere Jim Tressel has been a huge impact on my life without me even knowing it.
Imagine how hard this was to accept for a Penn State Graduate. My high school football coach was on Jim’s Youngstown State Penguin teams before he started coaching us in the late s. Apparently my former coach learned from one of the best as hundreds if not thousands of these ideas and quotes manuap the book were used all through out my high school football wunners.
This book was a nice trip down memory lane. My former coach was one of the trfssel influential people in my life so I guess I owe a lot to Jim for passing on such great teachings. I can still remember running across the width of the football field 53 yards and then turning and running back 53 more yards during those scorching June and July conditioning drills.
We had to do it 20 times before we could make the team. This is trwssel detailed in the book. Jim’s website is also great allowing you to print out some of the goal setting pages in the book. I think it must be weird for people to read that Jim didn’t get upset after losing the national championship.
It really puts things in perspective when the coach of such a big program stays humble. Granted i still don’t understand the sweater vest, but like I said Manuxl am a Nittany Lions fan.
Anyone PSU fans included will appreciate this book and it might even help you put some things in your life in better focus. One person found this helpful. The Winner’s Manual is an amazing book where you are guided on how to have success in life by the great Jim Tressel.
Tressel not only gives you insight on how he has been successful at Youngstown State as well as Ohio State, but he shows winnees the same principles that he uses as a coach.
For example, one of his biggest principles is love. By saying he loves his players, coaches, etc. Tressel gives many examples for all of the principles he gives. He gives examples from his life and then goes on to give many more examples about you yourself can practice these principles.
It was hard for me to put this book down and there was so much information that I began hilighting and taking notes for me to come back to later in life.
This book is a book that you can read over and over and pull something new from it everytime. Tressel teaches you how to be a winner through this book. Great book and wonderful message. The down side is what happened to Coach Tressel. If you can get past that point, this is a must read for any young person and even older ones at work who you’re trying to get to come together as a team.
This is a book about the fundamentals it takes to succeed at any endeavor you wish to pursue. Tressel hits the nail on the head and I’m glad to see he steps up to the plate and shares his Christian faith. There are quotes and stories throughout the book you’ll want to highlight and re-read.
You don’t need to be a football fan to appreciate the lessons found in the book. However, if you are a college football fan I highly recommend this. I really enjoyed this book, go buckeyes!
