I want to play a decadent sorcerer prince. However I don’t have access to the books at the moment so I don’t know if what I want to do with him is possible. My sorcersr is that his is a bit crazy and wasteful with his magic, more prone to casting spells to create palaces and banquets then practical things.

Maybe alter landscapes and raise opulent cities with his spells.

I figure I would have to also invest in geomancy. So is that possible in first edition?

You will want to read Savant and Sorcerer, which talks about all of those issues for First Edition. I don’t remember thaumaturgy being a thing in 1st Ed, but I could be wrong. It also has a chapter on practical summoning, but you will want Games of Divinity to look at demons. Yes, there are many that help out, with potential costs. Spells are time consuming and expensive on your mote pool, and potentially your Willpower.

Do not expect to caste a few spells every day, especially if you are casting at the Solar level. I remember my Solar Circle caster could count on one hand the number of times he cast a spell of any Circle.

For summoning, I prefer elementals. There are many elementals that are very good at working on projects, and you can bargain with them for their aid, rather than breaking their minds and forcing them to work. With the proper alliances, you can have elementals building vast earthworks, regulating your environment, and even assisting your law enforcement, intelligently!

Flame ducks are made of win. Ivory Orchid Pavillion raises a building equivalent to a mansion and is Celestial level, but it can be destroyed by countermagic.

The two I mentioned above create Manses on Demesnes.

Food from the Aerial Table is Terrestrial, but only creates bland food. I don’t remember anything better for the higher Exaltef, but I’m sure you could make something. From your description, you absolutely want to get to Celestial Circle as soon as possible. If I recall correctly, it is possible to start with it in 1st Ed, and its not too incredibly expensive to do. Raise your Essence twice, to four costing 14 of your 15 points. Make sure Occult is favored, raise it three with some of your free points, and then put your xorcerer bonus point there making it 4.

Takes all of your bonus points, and 2 of your free charms plus any spells savannt learn. You may want to invest in an Artifact book of knowledge, or a Mentor, or even both. Resources are very important for what you want!

Also remember, I’m assuming you are a Solar, which means the Wyld Hunt will pull out every stop to kill you if you are using Sorcery to raise cities. Depends on your ST. Still, it isn’t too far away: Trust me, your ideas are doable. I would describe them as just inside the reach of a starting Solar at character creation, maybe a little outside.

You might also want to buy more Backgrounds at the beginning of the game than is possible if you sorceref with Celestial Circle. If you dump those extra 7 points from your fourth dot of Essence into Resources, Allies, Contacts, Mentors, Artifacts, and Backing, you will have a much stronger platform. On the other hand, Essence 4 is a hard thing to train in game.

And I second the Elementals idea. Given that you mentioned palaces savang the like, Earth Elementals seem like a good fit. And since the powerful Earth Elementals Gemlords are mostly unconcerned about the world around them, and the excellent military capacity of one of their minions Jokun that have few drawbacks, they should suit you well for when you do need to kill things.

I don’t have my books handy so I don’t know how well Earth Elementals work or build, but it seems like a natural affinity for them.

There’s probably a Wood Elemental or two once again, I don’t know that would enhance your capacity to find exaltec produce food.

By the way, I like your character concept. The guys I would play with had they not moved on with their lives would be mystified “But I have irregular access to the Web, so if you want to contact me, PM my account or email me at erikhatinen yahoo. Don’t buy Essence at chargen with BP.

If a davant uses this Charm in an abusive or exploitative manner, the ST may punch him right in the goddamn face.

Originally posted by Zelbinnean View Post. It doesn’t have an efficient BP to XP ratio, no, but if you want to be a Sorcerer at the campaign start, then that’s what you buy. Opening a can of whoop-ass by flying in with Stormwind Rider while wearing a Celestial-Level body transformation spell and landing while adopting a Martial Arts Style form is going to convince a lot of people to pack up their weapons and armor and go home, even if you don’t have much more to back it up with.
