Power of the Dog 1. We follow his wet career wislow assassinations and violence throughout the book. In his prologue, Winslow drops winsllow into his story with the image of a dead child.

There might not be anything on earth quite as frustrating. Winslow really unpacks the bureaucracy that makes the war on drugs so snarly.
At first I wasn’t sure how all of these people were going to be connected but as the story unfolds I was completely drawn in. Told over a thirty year peero frame, Winslow’s masterful tale of cross border drug running, corrupt cops, and gangsters is much more than a bloody swipe at alphabet agency politicking, with themes comprising vengeance, betrayal, misguided justice, and the illusion of redemption rife.
Well-researched but also extremely violent with repeated, cataclysmic collateral damage. The prequel to The Carteland set about 10 years earlier, The Power of the Dog introduces a brilliant cast of characters.

Set up a giveaway. Obviously, my fault — I blame the usual culprits of isolation and ignorance. It starts with Operation Condor and the kidnapping perro Enrique Salazar and then spans the next 30 some odd years with some highlights or lowlights I should say such as the Mexico City earthquake inthe Iran-Contra hearings and how Monsanto made it’s money poer to name a few.
I don’t read much science fiction anymore.

However, considering that Winslow has written over a dozen books and for my money is one of the best and most underrated guys working in crime fiction today, getting a bronze medal is pretty damn good. And if there’s praise to be gifted to this novelist, than that praise belongs to Winslow for allowing us to see the consequences of the War on Drugs as seen through the eyes of the innocent and the not-so-innocent: I know what I’m doing. The only thing to discuss is the veracity of what this novel is about and our opinion as readers of that truth.
But there’s a difference between collateral damage that can’t be avoided, and pure brutality for the sake of brutality.
The final installation called The Border is …more Power of the Dog is one of a three parts series. This is a great work of fiction.
